Process: Method 1 – Steaming
- Initially, rinse the rice. It removes the starches that will cause the rice to clump, making it essential for cooking fluffy rice. Rinse the rice in a strainer with fine mesh placed over a large bowl until the water in the utensil runs transparent.
- Then, determine the correct ratio of water to rice. For each cup of uncooked rice, combine 1 1/2 cups of water and 1 teaspoon of olive oil. In a medium saucepan, stir together the rice, oil, and water to combine. Heat the liquid over high heat until it boils.
- Now, we’ll simmer. When the water comes to a boil, put on the lid & turn the flame down to a simmer. Put it on low heat and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
- Now it can safely steam. Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit for 10 minutes with the lid on. Take the lid off and use a fork to fluff the rice.
Method 2- Pasta Method
- Initially, rinse the rice. Pour the rice into a strainer with a fine mesh and rinse it under cool running water. In contrast to the steaming method, a quick rinse is acceptable here.
- Next, simmer it. In a pot filled halfway with cool water, place the rice and set a timer for 15 minutes. When the timer goes off, bring the water to a boil and check the rice for doneness.
- Finally, rinse it once more. When the rice is tender, remove it from the pot and rinse it under cold water. This method’s second rinse is the one you should not skip.
- It will remove the starches that cause the rice to clump together. Allow the rinsed rice to dry in the strainer for a few minutes. Then have fun!
How to Store & Reheat Rice?
Extra cooked rice can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, so you can cook more than you need for the week. To prevent the rice from drying out while reheating it in the microwave, place it in a microwave-safe bowl, sprinkle some water on top, and cover the bowl with a damp paper towel.
Reheating it in a pot is another option; just add some water, cover, and heat on low while stirring and fluffing frequently.
